Prevention is always preferred over treatment when it comes to any disease. Studies show that people, who are physically and socially active, participate in life long educational events, perform tasks that stimulate thinking, i.e. crossword puzzles and have a healthy diet have a lower incidence of Alzheimer's. Based on this we know that good prevention strategies include:
- Regular exercise
- Healthy eating- particularly green leafy vegetables, fruit, seafood, whole grains and a low consumption of red meats or other fatty foods
- Keep blood pressure under control
- Keep diabetes under control
- Social interaction
- Go to museums, plays, read the newspaper, do crossword puzzles, read books, take courses and keep the mind stimulated
